Home Affairs withdraws directive on intake of asylum-seeker applications

The Department of Home Affairs withdrew a directive on intake of asylum-seeker applications. The department said implementation overwhelmed Refugee Reception Office operations within days and raised safety concerns.

From February 2023 the UK government used the 4 star Yew Lodge Hotel, in the Leicestershire village of Kegworth, to house up to 250 asylum seekers. The hotel was one of hundreds throughout the UK used as asylum seeker housing due to the large backlogs in processing asylum applications. The hotel with it's restaurant, spa and wedding venue being closed off to the general public during this time.
